5 Things to Dig On - Wednesday Edition

  1. Radiohead’s From the Basement session. YouTube it. ‘Morning Mr. Magpie’ live trumps the album version with it’s incessant funky groove. Plus it is always fun to watch Thom Yorke do this thing(s).
  2. Louie CK’s Louie (Thursdays@ 10:30 PM). Louie CK my favorite stand-up comedian mainly because he gets it. He is a realist. Some would call his approach cyncism, but I find myself agreeing with him 98% of the time because his humor approaches how life truly is (The other 2% is his really gross stuff). His TV show is hilarious, sad, and very real to me and I admire his approach. He blends these elements to great effect to create a TV show that is unlike many others out there.
  3. Midnight in Paris. This was the last movie I saw. I will state that this is the only Woody Allen movie I have ever seen. I also will state that I think romantic comedies (Rom-Coms) are usually formulaic trash. But all I can really say is that I really enjoyed this movie. Owen Wilson was good, but the nostalgia theme is what made me connect with the film.
  4. Chad Van Gaalen Diaper Island. Now anytime you call an album Diaper Island few peope are actually going to take you seriously. But Chad Van Gaalen made a pretty good album of off-kilter indie rock with nice guitars, good vocals, and lots of reverb. His haunting vocals mixed with chiming guitars make the song ‘Peace is On the Rise’ a standout track.
  5. Pretzel Bread. It’s a loaf of bread, but it tastes like a pretzel! It’s wonderful! Put some turkey on his dandy delight and you are good to go! Slice it and put it in the toaster and set the controls for WOW.
